This Saturday evening, the Crescent Connection Bridge Run returns, inviting runners and walkers to traverse the iconic Crescent City Connection Bridge in a 4-mile race that offers panoramic views of the city’s skyline at sunset. The event, a staple in New Orleans’ fitness calendar, begins at the Oakwood Center Shopping Mall on the Westbank and concludes with a festive post-race party on Fulton Street in the Warehouse District.
The Crescent Connection Bridge Run has been a cherished tradition in New Orleans since 1989, drawing participants from across the region. The race not only promotes health and fitness but also celebrates the architectural marvel of the Crescent City Connection Bridge. Originally known as the Greater New Orleans Bridge, the first span opened in 1958, and a second was added in 1988. In 1989, a public contest led to the renaming of the twin spans as the Crescent City Connection

The race kicks off at 6:00 PM, allowing participants to experience the city’s skyline at sunset. The course, known for its unique elevation and panoramic views, is a favorite among both serious runners and casual walkers. This year’s event is sold out, and organizers have announced that there will be no race day in-person registration. Participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt, a finisher’s medal, a timed race bib, and entry into the post-race party featuring live music.
In recent years, the Crescent City Connection Bridge has undergone significant enhancements, including a $20.7 million LED lighting project aimed at revitalizing its nighttime presence. The new lighting was on display on a national stage this past February for Super Bowl LIX, when the Bridge was lit up in Super Bowl colors. The improvement not only improves visibility but also adds a dynamic visual element to the bridge, making evening events like the Bridge Run even more spectacular.

For those unable to participate this year, organizers encourage runners to join future events and experience the unique opportunity to traverse the Mississippi River on foot, taking in the stunning views and vibrant atmosphere that make the Crescent Connection Bridge Run a beloved tradition in New Orleans.
