Opening Night is almost here — May 8 marks the debut of the Mississippi Mud Monsters, and you better believe Fish is ready to steal the show.

(Above: Fish made his debut at last Tuesday’s Governor’s Cup, and he even took the field with his favorite college team; the Ole Miss Rebels)
He’s the official mascot of the Mud Monsters — a high-energy, T-shirt-launching, dance-happy reminder that the best things in sports sometimes come squirming right out of the swamp.
Legend has it Fish crawled up from the muddy waters just past Old Brandon Road, a place where the land remembers what came before the bright lights and ballgames. With the whiskers of a catfish, the fins of a gar, and the belly of a corn dogs, Fish isn’t your typical mascot — but this isn’t your typical team either. And Trustmark Park isn’t your typical ballpark either.
Some say he was born the night a foul ball landed in the swamp during a thunderstorm. Others swear he’s always been out there, practicing his slides in the mud, just waiting for his shot. When the Mud Monsters came to Pearl, Fish knew it was time to rise up — googly eyes, slime, and all.
Now he’s part myth, part mayhem, and all heart. Whether it’s the Mudslide Shuffle, surprise dance breaks, or showing up behind you with the T-shirt cannon, Fish is there to make sure fans leave with a smile.
So when the lights go up on May 8, and the Mud Monsters storm the field for the first time, keep an eye out. You’ll know Fish when you see him — shaking fins, dropping moves, and proving once again:
He’s not just a mascot.
He’s Fish.
Straight from the swamps of the Pearl River. Ready for Opening Night on May 8 at Trustmark Park.
