It’s a banner day for college baseball in the Magnolia State. For the first time in modern memory, both the Ole Miss Rebels and Southern Miss Golden Eagles will take the field on the same day with conference championships on the line—the SEC and Sun Belt titles, respectively. It’s a proud moment for Mississippi baseball, and all eyes from Oxford to Hattiesburg (and everywhere in between) will be glued to the action..
Ole Miss Rebels — Rolling Through Hoover

Against all odds, the 7th-seeded Rebels have plowed through the mighty SEC bracket in Hoover, Alabama. Their 2025 postseason has been nothing short of cinematic—starting with a gritty win over Florida, followed by a statement victory over rival Arkansas. But it was Saturday’s 2-0 shutout of No. 3 LSU that sent shockwaves through the conference.
Pitcher Cade Townsend delivered a solid performance, tossing 4.2 IP, giving up 2 hits on 0 Earned Runs. Offensively, Will Furniss continued his breakout season with a no-doubt solo home run in the first inning, and Campbell Smithwick added the insurance with a clutch RBI single in the fourth.
With the win, Ole Miss punches its ticket to its first SEC Championship Game appearance since 2019—a remarkable achievement for a squad that was considered on the NCAA Tournament bubble just two weeks ago.
Up next? A showdown with No. 4 seed Vanderbilt at 12 p.m. CT on SEC Network. The Commodores bring one of the most consistent pitching staffs in the nation, setting up a classic offense vs. defense clash. For Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco, this tournament run is a reminder of the Rebels’ postseason resilience—something the 2022 national title team embodied.
Southern Miss Golden Eagles — Sun Belt Dynasty in the Making

Meanwhile in Montgomery, Alabama, the Southern Miss Golden Eagles are on a tear of their own. Winners of 18 straight games, Southern Miss is surging at just the right time, and their 2-1 semifinal win over Troy Saturday morning was a masterclass in postseason baseball.
After a first-inning two-run hit from Joey Urban and six hits in 3.1 innings of work from Grayden Harris, the Golden Eagles leaned on the arms of Kros Sivley and Colby Allen, who combined to allow just three hits. The pitching duo shut down the Trojans over the final 5 2/3 innings, preserving the win in front of a Sun Belt-heavy crowd at Riverwalk Stadium, home of the Montgomery Biscuits.
Southern Miss looks to make it 19 straight now and they advance to its third straight Sun Belt Conference Championship Game, where they will face off against Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m. CT on ESPN+. It’ll be the first meeting this season between the Chanticleers and the Golden Eagles.

Regardless of the outcomes today, the state of Mississippi will be center stage in college baseball—something neither fanbase takes lightly.
