Yesterday we profiled Who’s In for the Golden Eagles in 2027, where we looked at the players Coach Christian Ostrander has added through the portal for 2027. Southern Miss is also beginning to see players depart through the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Southern Miss Baseball Reloads Through the Transfer Portal – Magnolia Coast Sports
For every impact addition, another player often leaves in search of more playing time, a different opportunity, or a fresh start. While head coach Christian Ostrander and his staff have already strengthened several areas of the roster through the portal, the Golden Eagles are also working to replace the players who choose to continue their careers elsewhere.
Below is a running tracker of every Southern Miss player known to have entered the transfer portal for the 2027 season. This story will be updated as additional moves become official. Today we are looking at Who’s Out for the Golden Eagles in 2027.
Jace Norton | INF | Redshirt Sophomore

After transferring to Southern Miss from Mississippi State, Norton appeared in two games during the 2025 season before seeing limited action again in 2026. A former highly regarded Auburn High School standout, Norton possessed the versatility to play multiple infield positions and still has multiple years of eligibility remaining as he looks for a larger opportunity elsewhere
McCarty English | RHP | Redshirt Sophomore

English played an important role on the Golden Eagles’ pitching staff in 2026, making 12 appearances with seven starts after opening the season in the weekend rotation. He finished the year 1-1 with a 4.78 ERA, striking out 22 batters over 26.1 innings before moving into a bullpen role during the second half of the season. His departure represents the most experienced loss among Southern Miss’ transfer portal departures to date.
Brooks Willoughby | LHP | Sophomore

Willoughby appeared in three relief outings during the 2026 season after enjoying a promising freshman campaign in 2025. As a freshman, the left hander went 3-0 with a 5.03 ERA in 15 relief appearances and recorded his first collegiate save against TCU. Although his role diminished this past season, he leaves Southern Miss with valuable collegiate experience and two seasons of eligibility remaining. Willoughby committed to Louisiana Tech on Monday.
Willoughby is probably the biggest surprise on this list. After showing promise as a freshman in 2025 with three wins out of the bullpen, many expected him to become a larger part of the pitching staff. Instead, his innings dropped dramatically in 2026, making him one of the more notable portal departures for the Golden Eagles.
Jake Neely | RHP | Freshman

Neely made one appearance for the Golden Eagles during the 2026 season, throwing one-third of an inning. The young right hander spent much of the year developing behind an experienced pitching staff and now enters the transfer portal in search of a greater opportunity to earn innings.
Camden Rodgers | RHP | Redshirt Freshman

Rodgers did not appear in a game during the 2026 season while redshirting as part of Southern Miss’ deep pitching staff. A developmental arm with several years of eligibility remaining, Rodgers enters the portal looking for a chance to continue his growth and compete for a larger role at his next program.
