As the regular season comes to a close, Southern Miss baseball has once again proven itself as a powerhouse, with multiple players receiving top honors for their performances on the field.

Leading the charge is Nick Monistere, who has been named the Sun Belt Player of the Year following a sensational season as the Golden Eagles’ second baseman. The junior slugger from Brandon, Mississippi, emerged as one of the most feared hitters in the conference, finishing the season with 18 home runs, 66 RBIs, and a .342 batting average. His consistent ability to drive in runs and deliver in clutch situations made him a cornerstone of the Southern Miss offense, helping lead the team to a strong regular-season finish.
Joining Monistere in earning accolades is Carson Paetow, a veteran outfielder whose contributions to the team extend beyond his statistical achievements. Paetow was honored with the Tony Robichaux Leadership Award, which recognizes players who exemplify character, leadership, and dedication to their teams. A two-time team captain, Paetow not only provided key offensive production—hitting 15 home runs and driving in 57 RBIs—but also served as a guiding force for younger players, fostering a culture of determination and unity within the squad.

On the pitching side, JB Middleton added another major award to Southern Miss’ collection, taking home the Ferriss Trophy, an annual honor given to Mississippi’s top collegiate baseball player. The dominant right-hander solidified his reputation as one of the premier arms in the state, posting an impressive 9-1 record with a 2.07 ERA and 104 strikeouts. His presence on the mound was instrumental in the team’s success, as he consistently delivered crucial performances that kept the Golden Eagles competitive in tight matchups.
With these postseason recognitions, Southern Miss continues to showcase the talent and leadership that have made the program one of the most respected in college baseball. As the Sun Belt Tournament concludes, the Golden Eagles will look to carry this momentum forward in their pursuit of further success on the diamond.
