TCU Horned Frogs etched their name into the annals of Beach Volleyball history on Sunday, securing their first ever NCAA Beach Volleyball Championship with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Loyola Marymount University (LMU) at Gulf Place Beach in front of The Hangout in Gulf Shores Sunday morning
This landmark achievement not only marks TCU’s first national title in beach volleyball but also signifies a seismic shift in the sport’s competitive landscape. Since the NCAA began sponsoring beach volleyball in 2016, the championship had been dominated by powerhouses USC and UCLA. TCU’s triumph disrupts this duopoly.
The final against fourth-seeded LMU was a testament to the high-caliber play and resilience of both teams. The match culminated in a decisive third set on the top court, where TCU’s dynamic duo, Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno, faced off against LMU’s formidable pair. Alvarez and Moreno, who had previously represented Spain last summer in Paris at the Olympics, showcased their international experience and synergy, clinching the championship point and igniting celebrations among the Horned Frogs faithful.
In the semifinals, TCU faced a formidable opponent in No. 6 Cal Poly. The Horned Frogs rose to the occasion, securing a 3-1 win to advance to their first-ever national championship match. Key contributions came from the pairings of Anhelina Khmil and Ana Vergara, who maintained a perfect 20-0 season record, and Allanis Navas and Sofia Izuzquiza, who delivered a clutch performance to seal the semifinal victory.
This championship victory represents TCU’s seventh NCAA team national title and the first for the Big 12 Conference in beach volleyball. It underscores the program’s rapid ascent under the leadership of head coach Hector Gutierrez and the exceptional talent of its student-athletes. Wikipedia+2SI+2Texas Christian University+2
