For the third consecutive year and the seventh time in program history, William Carey University has been selected as one of the host sites for the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, solidifying its reputation as a premier destination for postseason baseball in the South.
The action is set to take place May 12–15 at Milton Wheeler Field As one of ten national host sites selected by the NAIA, William Carey’s selection is a testament not only to its on-field performance, but also to the strength of its facilities, fan support, and commitment to athletic excellence.
The Crusaders enter the tournament ranked No. 10 in the nation, boasting an impressive 37-11 overall record, including a 24-6 mark in Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) play. They recently clinched their second SSAC regular-season title in the past three years, showcasing a deep and balanced roster fueled by experience, discipline, and firepower on both sides of the ball.
One of the season’s high points was a commanding 15-5 victory over Tennessee Southern in SSAC Tournament pool play, further cementing Carey’s status as a regional heavyweight and a genuine World Series contender.
Each year, the NAIA evaluates schools across the country to serve as host sites for the Opening Round. Milton Wheeler Field, with its intimate layout, passionate fanbase, and modern amenities, consistently ranks among the top small-college baseball venues in the South. Combine that with Hattiesburg’s central location and William Carey’s athletic pedigree, and it’s no surprise the NAIA keeps coming back.

The Opening Round will feature a double-elimination bracket of five teams, with only one advancing to the 2025 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, set for May 23–31. For the Crusaders, the path to Lewiston will run through their own backyard—a dream scenario for players and fans alike.
Hosting a regional also provides a boost to the local economy. Hotels, restaurants, and small businesses throughout Hattiesburg are expected to see increased traffic, with fans, family, and scouts traveling in from across the country. It’s an event that not only celebrates athletic achievement but also serves as a showcase for the city’s hospitality living up to its nickname of “Baseburg”.
The NAIA Opening Round will run from May 12–15, with game times and matchups to be announced following the national selection show on Sunday May 5.
