The stage is set at the Gulfport Sportsplex as the 2025 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Softball Tournament returns from May 6 to May 9, with a potential championship game on May 10. Eight teams—four from each division—will compete in a double-elimination format, vying for the conference crown and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

- No. 1 Prairie View A&M (21-3 SWAC)

Eastern Division:
- No. 1 Florida A&M (19-5 SWAC)
- No. 2 Jackson State (15-9 SWAC)
- No. 3 Alabama State (14-10 SWAC)
- No. 4 Bethune-Cookman (14-10 SWAC)
The tournament kicks off on Tuesday, May 6, with first-round matchups.
- 10:30 a.m. – Texas Southern vs. Alabama State
- 1:00 p.m. – Jackson State vs. Southern
- 3:30 p.m. – Florida A&M vs. Grambling State
- 6:00 p.m. – Prairie View A&M vs. Bethune-Cookman

Pitchers to Watch
Alyssa Lopez – Bethune-Cookman (Senior)
Lopez enters the tournament as one of the conference’s premier pitchers. She boasts a 10-6 record with a league-best 2.16 ERA and a .217 opponent batting average. Her season highlights include a no-hitter against Mississippi Valley State and 94 strikeouts over 107 innings. Lopez has been named SWAC Pitcher of the Week four times this season.
Zoryana Hughes – Florida A&M (Sophomore)
The Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Hughes has lived up to expectations, recording a 10-6 record with a 2.67 ERA. She has completed 10 games and struck out 46 batters over 110 innings.
Offensive Standouts
Mia Nunez – Prairie View A&M (Senior)
Nunez, the pre-season Player of the Year, has been instrumental in Prairie View A&M’s success. She leads the team with a .378 batting average, 51 hits, and 42 RBIs. Her power and consistency at the plate make her a formidable presence.
Kiauna Watson – Florida A&M (Senior)
Watson is a dynamic player, leading the Rattlers with 21 stolen bases and maintaining a .312 batting average. Her speed and defensive prowess at second base have earned her a spot on the All-SWAC Second Team.
Kamryn Broussard – Grambling State (Sophomore)
Broussard has made a significant impact in her sophomore year, earning the title of 2025 SWAC Softball Player of the Year. Her offensive contributions have been pivotal for Grambling State’s performance this season.
Joslynn Davis – Bethune-Cookman (Senior)
Davis has been a consistent performer in the outfield, starting all 50 games this season. Her leadership and experience are invaluable assets for the Wildcats.
Julie Lopez – Jackson State (Junior)
Lopez has been a cornerstone of Jackson State’s infield, providing stability and leadership at shortstop. Her defensive skills have been crucial in tight game situations.
Thais Uyema – Bethune-Cookman (Senior)
Uyema’s defensive capabilities behind the plate have been instrumental for the Wildcats. Her ability to manage pitchers and control the game’s pace is a significant advantage.
