Last week we met the newest mascot in the Magnolia State, Fish, from the Mississippi Mud Monsters. With the first Mud Monsters game less than two days away I wanted to pay tribute to some of the mascots of the past. Today we meet Trusty, who graced the stands at Trustmark Park for 20 seasons as the mascot of the Mississippi Braves.

Name: Trusty
Team: Mississippi Braves (2005-2024)
Born: 2005
Birthplace: Somewhere between Yazoo City and the Delta
Species: Part lovable mutt, part fun-loving creature of mystery.
In the world of Minor League Baseball, mascots often serve as the lifeblood of fan engagement, and for the Mississippi Braves, Trusty was no exception. Debuting in 2005 alongside the team’s inaugural season in Pearl. Trusty quickly became a beloved figure at Trustmark Park, captivating fans with his vibrant red fur, infectious energy, and unwavering dedication to the game.
Long before Trusty was high-fiving kids at Trustmark Park and leading seventh-inning stretches, his story began deep in the heart of the Mississippi wilderness— somewhere between Yazoo City and the Delta.
They say it was a stormy spring night in 2005 when a bolt of lightning struck an old Braves pennant nailed to a pecan tree. The tree shook, the ground rumbled, and out of the thick Delta fog emerged a creature unlike any other—red-furred, wide-eyed, and born wearing cleats.
The locals didn’t know what to make of him. Some said he was a hound dog struck by magic. Others swore he was a cousin of Bigfoot who’d taken a liking to baseball and boiled peanuts. But one thing was clear—he had rhythm in his paws, a whistle in his snout, and a heart that beat to the sound of a walk-up song.

Word traveled fast, and by the time the Mississippi Braves rolled into Pearl for their inaugural season, the legend had already reached the ballpark. The team didn’t hire him. He just showed up—on top of the dugout, dancing, grinning, and stealing the show. And just like that, he was on the payroll.
Over the course of 20 seasons, Trusty was a constant presence at Trustmark Park, participating in countless games, community events, and promotional activities. His commitment to the team and its fans was unwavering, making him an integral part of the Mississippi Braves’ identity. In recognition of his popularity, the team even honored with a several bobblehead giveaways over the past two decades. He was even given his own playing card.

In 2024, as the Mississippi Braves announced their relocation to Columbus, Georgia, Trusty also decided to hang up his oversized shoes, retiring after two decades of service. Now enjoying a well-deserved retirement, Trusty resides in the Mississippi Delta, where he spends his days fishing in the Mississippi River and reminiscing about his time at Trustmark Park. Today Trusty can be spotted in blues bars in the Delta playing his harmonica with another familiar face Diddly, the secondary mascot of the Mississippi Braves, who plays the guitar with Trusty.
Trusty’s legacy continues to live on in the hearts of Mississippi Braves fans, symbolizing the joy and community spirit that Minor League Baseball brings to its supporters. His two decades of dedication serve as a testament to the impact a mascot can have on a team’s culture and its connection with the community.
