Ole Miss reclaimed the Governor’s Cup in dramatic fashion Tuesday night, defeating Mississippi State 8-7 in 10 innings at Trustmark Park.
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but the Rebels clawed their way back, scoring five unanswered runs, including a two-run homer by Will Furniss to take a 5-3 advantage. Mississippi State responded with a four-run sixth inning, reclaiming the lead at 7-5.
With their backs against the wall, Ole Miss found late-game magic. Austin Fawley crushed a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, tying the game at 7-7 and sending it to extras.
In the 10th, Hudson Calhoun shut down the Bulldogs with a dominant relief performance, setting the stage for the Rebels’ walk-off moment. Brayden Randle led off with a single, advanced to third on wild pitches, and Furniss delivered the game-winning RBI single, securing Ole Miss’ first Governor’s Cup victory since 2022.
The Rebels (29-12, 10-8 SEC) now turn their attention to a crucial weekend series against No. 9 Vanderbilt, while Mississippi State (24-17, 6-12 SEC) looks to bounce back on the road against Auburn.
