In a thrilling matchup Wednesday night, the No. 22-ranked Southern Miss Golden Eagles edged out the Southeastern Louisiana 5–4 at Pete Taylor Park, thanks to a dramatic walk-off home run by sophomore Nick Monistere.
​The game was a back-and-forth affair. Southern Miss took an early lead in the third inning with two runs, but Southeastern Louisiana responded in the seventh. Patrick Woods’ RBI single, followed by a two-run homer from Giovanni Licciardi, gave the Lions a 4–2 advantage.
The Golden Eagles chipped away at the deficit, scoring runs in the seventh and eighth innings to tie the game at 4–4. In the bottom of the ninth, with the game on the line, Monistere delivered a towering solo home run to left-center field, sealing the victory for Southern Miss.
Monistere’s clutch performance, highlighted by his game-winning home run, earned him the Player of the Game honors. His timely hitting was instrumental in Southern Miss’s comeback victory.​
With this win, Southern Miss improved to 28–13 on the season, while Southeastern Louisiana fell to 31–10.
