The Charles Huff era began at Southern Miss Saturday for the Spring Game at M.M. Roberts Stadium.  The game ended in a 7-7 tie as for fans and media it was their first real chance to get a look at the team in person.
Offensive Highlights: The passing game will be the driving force for the Golden Eagles in 2025. Senior receiver Davis Dalton caught the game’s first touchdown for the black team, a five yard touchdown pass from UAB transfer Landy Lyddy. Marshall transfer Bralon followed that up with a short touchdown from former Madison-Ridgeland standout John White to open the game’s third quarter.

Defensive Highlights:Â
Southern Miss’s defense held strong in their 2025 spring game, allowing only two touchdowns on long drives. However, the defense did not force any turnovers during the game.
New head coach Charles Huff emphasized that the team will focus on adding defensive talent in the transfer portal, particularly on the defensive line. Southern Miss already has 12 defensive players from Marshall, most of them defensive backs
Quarterback Highlights

The quarterbacks had a solid showing in the 2025 spring game. Marshall transfer Braylon Braxton started at quarterback and looked comfortable, though he did not record a touchdown. Head coach Charles Huff limited Braxton’s running ability to avoid potential injuries.
UAB junior transfer Landry Lyddy threw the game’s first touchdown pass to Davis Dalton, while sophomore John White connected on his seventh completed pass for a touchdown. Junior Kyle McCormick also saw some reps.
Huff’s approach seems to be setting the foundation for a disciplined and cohesive team heading into the 2025 season.
