
In a season marked by resilience and dominance, the William Carey University Crusaders baseball team has emerged as a powerhouse in the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), clinching the 2025 regular-season title with an impressive 36-11 overall record and a 24-6 record in conference play.
Under the seasoned leadership of Head Coach Bobby Halford, now in his 40th year at the helm, the Crusaders have showcased a blend of experienced leadership and youthful vigor. The team’s offensive prowess is evident, averaging over 10 runs per game and boasting a .331 batting average.

The Crusaders’ lineup has been formidable, with standout performances propelling the team to victory. Notably, in a commanding 22-6 win over the Mobile Rams on March 22, the team demonstrated its offensive depth and strategic acumen.
As the Crusaders prepare for the SSAC Tournament, the team’s focus remains on maintaining their momentum and striving for excellence. With a blend of seasoned players and emerging talent, William Carey University is poised to make a significant impact in the postseason.

P Luke Lycette (5’10/170 Brandon, MS) Sr. Jones College

A transfer from Jones College, Lycette has emerged as the ace of the Crusaders’ pitching staff. Over 54.2 innings pitched, he boasts a 6–0 record with a 2.80 ERA and 64 strikeouts, leading the team in both innings and strikeouts. Opponents are batting just .194 against him, underscoring his dominance on the mound.
1B/P Preston Ratliff (6’2/230 Slidell, LA) Sr. MS Gulf Coast CC

Ratliff has been a versatile asset, contributing both offensively and defensively. He leads the team in games played (46) and has been instrumental in turning 31 double plays, the highest on the team. Offensively, he has recorded 54 strikeouts, indicating his aggressive approach at the plate.
OF Josh Alexander (6’1/200 Napoleonville, LA) Sr. UL-Lafayette

A transfer from the Louisiana Rajun Cajuns, Alexander has been a consistent presence in the outfield and at the plate. He leads the team in at-bats (187) and has contributed significantly to the team’s offensive output, including a notable grand slam in a 22–6 victory over the University of Mobile.
C Rigoberto Hernandez (5’10/180 Panama City, Panama) Sr.

Hailing from Panama, Hernandez has been a dynamic force both offensively and defensively. He leads the team in stolen bases (17) and assists (106), showcasing his speed and defensive prowess. His performance includes a crucial bases-clearing triple in the aforementioned game against Mobile.
3B Eli Collins (6’0/190 Laurel, MS) Sr. Southern Miss

The Laurel native has gotten plenty of appearances at the plate since transferring to the south side of Hattiesburg from Southern Miss after last year. Collins has been a reliable contributor, tying for second on the team in walks (33) and leading in hit-by-pitches (11). His ability to get on base has been vital to the team’s offensive strategy.
2B Tyler Ducksworth (6’0/190 Laurel, MS)

Ducksworth has been a steady presence in the lineup, leading the team in games played (46) and starts (46). He has also contributed 33 walks and 7 hit-by-pitches, reflecting his discipline and toughness at the plate.
C/1B Jayden Mark (6’3/190 Petal, MS) Jr.

Mark has been a defensive stalwart behind the plate, leading the team in putouts (251) and total chances (282). Offensively, he has driven in key runs, including a two-RBI single in the game against Mobile.
